News reaching us that,a nineteen-year-old female student of the Obrakyire Senior High Technical School in the Central region, lost her life when she attempted to abort a seven-month-old pregnancy.
Edina Ashabie died at the Agona Swedru Government Hospital where she had been sent for treatment after taking a medicine which her 28-year old boyfriend, Victor Atila allegedly gave her.
In an interview with Adom News, the Awutu Breku District Police Commander ASP Johnson Hessey said, the girl was sent to Awutu Bontrase clinic for treatment when she fell sick, but she was she then referred to Agona Swedru Government Hospital when her condition deteriorated.
She was however pronounced dead on arrival.
Her parents believe her death was caused by an attempted abortion and they allege her boyfriend gave her the medicine to abort the pregnancy.
Meanwhile, the suspect has being arrested to assist in investigation.
Whiles the police is also waiting for postmortem to ascertain the cause of death.

The man, identified as Joshua Tei, allegedly chopped off his girlfriend’s hand at Aponoapono in the Suhum Municipality in the Eastern Region following a misunderstanding.
He accused the victim, known as Patience Tei, of infidelity and absconded after committing the crime.
Multiple media reports say the victim was in church when she stepped out to receive a call.
Her boyfriend emerged from a nearby bush, assaulted her and hacked off her hand.
Police have declared him wanted, the Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, has said.
“We have declared him [Tei] wanted now. And the reason being that he severed the left hand of his girlfriend, one Patience Tei, at a Village called Aponoapono near Suhum,” he said.
He also explained that the incident happen on Saturday June 10, adding that the suspected bolted after committing the heinous crime.
He further said the victim is responding to treatment.
A 55-year-old man has been lynched at a drinking spot for allegedly stealing GH¢1, 50 pesewas.
The deceased, Kofi Amoako Sensen was beaten to death after the owner of the pub accused him of stealing her money.
This unfortunate incident occurred at Fetteh Kakraba in the Gomoa East district of the Central region.
Brother of the deceased, Akwesi Boadi who confirmed this unfortunate incident to Adom News’ Kofi Adjei said his brother had finished having some drinks and was leaving when the owner said her money had been stolen.
The deceased who was the only one at the pub was accused of stealing the money thus when he denied stealing the money, the lady raised alarm.
Mr. Boadi said the residents, mostly men who rushed to the shop did not even ask his side of the story but pounced on the deceased and beat him to pulp.
Kofi Amoako who was vomiting blood was then rushed to the St Gregory hospital at Budumburam by some good Samaritans died shortly after arrival.
The family has reported the case to the police at Awutu Breku but the attackers and owner of the pub are currently at large.
According to him, the residents only said he was a thief. He, therefore decided to join the other residents to beat him to death.
“I was carrying wood. Then I heard they had caught a thief, so I went to watch. When I got there, they had killed already. So I took the block that was lying around and used it to hit his head.”
In the video circulating on social media, the 36-year-old Kwame Tuffuor is seen hitting the Captain’s head with a block.
Captain Mahama was lynched by residents of Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central region on Monday, May 29, and he will be laid to rest this Friday, June 9, 2017.
The Police has arrested 42 suspects in connection with the incident.

11 years old class five pupil, Mamie Sam of Roman Catholic primary school Segbwema town Jaluahun chiefdom Kailahun district cries to humanitarian organizations to immediately come to her aid as she is not at peace at the moment. She currently resides with both of her grand parents Saidu Moriba and Mamie Sellu at 9 Poimie road, Lago square section Sebwema town. Speaking to Awoko at her residence she explained that some time last year she went on a fishing expedition together with her grand mother and other women in the town.
After fishing 11 years old Mamie Sam started experiencing her breast becoming large. While taking bath together with the elders in the stream one of the women spoke about it saying her breast is becoming abnormal and it is not a good thing for her. During the night hour she had sleepless night and it’s kept projecting up to the current length as she continue to scratch. The following morning when she went to school her class and school mates were provoking her and there after she stopped going to school almost a year now. She started her schooling at the Ansarul Primary School from classes 1 to 3 and then continued to Roman Catholic Primary School from classes 4 to 5. She maintained that her parents have sought medical attention at Nixon Memorial hospital at Segbwema and several herbalists within the community but no improvement. Her grand father Saidu Moriba said this is the first time he is seeing such wonder in his life time, and that they are baffled as what to do to save her from this trouble. He revealed that several prayers and sacrifices have been done on her behalf but the problem still remains the same .
